From that initial push back in the 1950s, the Junee Legacy stock drive has become an annual tradition.
With Legacy Week beginning on Sunday, September 2, the annual stock drive in on again.
Junee Legacy group chairman Chris Moloney said the stock drive had been well supported in the past.
It has been such a success, that other Legacy groups have taken up the fundraising idea.
Mr Moloney said all of the money raised by the stock drive would be donated to Wagga Legacy, and through it, flow back to Junee recipients.
Wagga Legacy is the administrative hub for seven regional groups, including Junee.
Junee Legacy has primarily supported World War II widows and their families in the past.
Currently there are 192 Legatees attached to Wagga Legacy, who care for more than 860 widows.
Mr Moloney said when the stock drive started, volunteers would drive around to individual farms to collect donated stock.
While this is is still an option, farmers can also donate through their stock and station agent.
