"You have to trust that you've done the work, that I know how to do this and that I can execute it when it matters. And history shows that I can. So it's a lot of preparation and then self-belief on the day."

Soccer: The Matildas continue their campaign when they take on Sweden from 6.30pm tonight.

Hockey: The Kookaburras head to Tokyo on top of the world rankings, but they've got the weight of the world on their shoulders leading into their opening game against Japan at 10.30am.

Tennis: Matches begin at 12pm with Ash Barty to step onto the court at Ariake Tennis Park alongside Storm Sanders in a doubles match against Japan. Sam Stosur and John Millman will be in singles action.

Swimming: We've got plenty happening in the pool with men's 400m freestyle medal contender Elijah Winnington - one of those expected to contribute to a massive haul for Australia - featuring in heats from 8.38pm at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. The Tokyo iteration of Australia's golden girls will be in action during the 4x100m freestyle relay heats on tonight from 9.43pm.

Cycling: The men's road race featuring Lucas Hamilton, Luke Durbridge and Richie Porte is underway from midday.

Shooting: Australia's Elise Collier, Katarina Kowplos and Daniel Repacholi are in action with medals to be won in the women's 10m Air Rifle and men's 10m Air Pistol events from 9.30am, before finals later today.
