In March, NSW Premier John Barilaro, Treasurer Dominic Perrottet, and Minister for Better Regulation Kevin Anderson joined GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Tony Mestrov at Muswellbrook with news that the racetrack would be upgraded to the standard where it is able to conduct TAB racing, a similar process GRNSW completed in the past year at both Taree and Wauchope.
Work is expected to commence in coming months at Muswellbrook with plans for a new track surface, lure rail and system, starting boxes, semaphore board and timing system, along with safety upgrades such as fence padding and safety rails.
"The Muswellbrook club and greyhound racing in the region has a rich history dating back more than 60 years, and we are excited to be able to purchase the track and now bring it up to TAB standard, for the benefit of the hard-working club, the local participants and the community," Mestrov said.
The club is expected to be allocated 6-8 TAB meetings this year. Another addition to the venue will be a Greyhounds As Pets (GAP), Pet Prep Park. The facility will allow owners and trainers to bring their retired dogs, and work with GAP staff on preparing for rehoming.
