Then he took a moment to wonder if that field would be just about all they would be confined to if lockdown came into effect.

"I wish I had the answers for you, but we don't even have them ourselves," the Wallabies and ACT Brumbies winger said over the phone.

Two hours passed and then came his club and Test teammate Tom Banks' turn to talk about the Wallabies' looming series against France.

The 27-year-old splits the formalities with word "we just got some bad news". The Wallabies, caught among millions in south-east Queensland, were in lockdown.

That means straying no further than their accommodation facilities, tea room facilities, and the training ground.

The Wallabies opening Test against France on July 7 had already been shifted to Brisbane's Lang Park after Sydney was forced into a city-wide lockdown.

"Hopefully it's only a three-day lockdown and it doesn't get pushed any longer," Banks said.

"It feels like last year again with cases popping up everywhere. You can't really look too far into it, you've really got to focus on your training and you can't get distracted too much by that outside noise.

"Not too much changes to do with training, but it's just everyday life is pretty much in a bubble now which is a little bit disappointing. We can still play which is the main thing I guess."

The French squad is in hotel quarantine in Sydney but have been cleared to travel to Brisbane for the series opener.

Ticket sales for the opening Test against the French had been put on hold with Ticketek advising fans to stay tuned for more information amid the Brisbane lockdown.

The timing serves as a cruel blow for Rugby Australia officials, who were banking on a near sell-out crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground before being forced to move the game interstate.

Two Wallabies who won't feature in that opening match are scrumhalf Nic White and prop Scott Sio, who will both miss the three-Test series with injury.

A hamstring injury has forced Sio onto a growing casualty list with questions hovering over the fitness of Jake Gordon [knee], Matt To'omua and James O'Connor [neck injuries].

The rest of Rennie's squad has been worked relentlessly on the training paddock, kicking off at 6am and calling time at 6pm as they prepare to launch into an international schedule featuring games against France, the Rugby Championship and a spring tour.

"Especially after last year when there was only a handful of games, everyone is just so keen to play," Banks said.

"Being in camp, especially in lockdown, we're pretty lucky to be able to keep training. Everyone is really excited about the upcoming schedule and just ripping into some international footy again.

"It's been really tough but everyone has ripped in. Obviously we had pretty tough two weeks straight out of Super, but everyone has ripped in and we've got some really good training load in. We're shaping up well.

"We really had to get some clarity in and around a few things, obviously our set piece and in our back line there's a lot of new faces.

"It's been long but it's been really positive in initiating all the new faces and coaches."
