Siobhan McGettigan and Nathan Moore started their careers as officers on Monday at Wagga Police Station.

Originally from Newcastle, Constable Moore said becoming a police officer had been a lifelong dream of his. But, it had taken a while to take the leap.

"It feels great. It's very rewarding," he said.

"This has been a lifelong dream of mine. I did other jobs, and I was a bit nervous, but everyone was pushing me, and I finally did it.

"I've grabbed the opportunity with both hands."

Constable McGettigan said she was excited to put her training into effect and help out the local community.

"It's new and exciting, and I am new to the area as well, so it's a bit of a change," she said.

"I am from Penrith. I do want to help the community, be a role model to others and also make a positive difference to the community."

Both Constable Moore and Constable McGettigan said they are looking forward to protecting the community in any way they can.

Inspector Brett Collins welcomed the recruits to the Riverina team.

"On Friday, 192 probationary constables passed out of Goulburn Police Academy," he said.

"They will be in general duties and serving the community.

"You can never have too many police at a police station, so the two new probationary constables will be very helpful."

The Murray River Police District gained two recruits, and the Murrumbidgee Police District welcome three new members.
