The 16-year-old from Junee is hoping to complete 100km before May 31 in order to raise funds for multiple sclerosis (MS) research.
It is a disease he has become very familiar with. His mother, Miranda, was diagnosed with MS 17 years ago when she was then just 30.
"It's a horrible disease, there's no cure," Dylan said.
"I want to do as much as I can for the MS Foundation, to raise as much as I can and let people know about this disease."
Over the course of his life, Dylan's mother's health has taken some significant turns. The worst was when the family immigrated to Australia from The Netherlands in 2017.
"Mum's muscles can stop working, she can't stand for long periods and she can't really work full-time because of it," Dylan said.
"She's been well at the moment and that's been good, but when we moved here, the stress of the move made it worse.
"You could see on the MRIs how it was spreading again."
In other news:
Having been a regular runner since he moved to the Riverina, Dylan is confident he will be able to meet his daily running target.
In fact, he's so confident he has already doubled the minimum amount required to take part in the May running challenge.
"It's actually called The May 50K, but I didn't think 50km was enough, so I'm going to do 100km," he said.
"Starting [Saturday], I'll have to run at least 3.6km every day to meet the 100km, but I'll probably do between five and eight [kilometres] every day."
To begin with, Dylan is expecting to make laps of his routine area around Junee, but as the month progresses he's keen for even more challenges.
"I'm mostly run around town but I want to go up The Rock too, I've never done that before and a challenge is always good," he said.
A day before his first run, Dylan had already raised more than $500, which, quite modestly, was the amount he expected to raise by the end of his last run.
"I hit my target within two days, so I really don't have a target, I just want to raise as much as I can," he said.
"Every year we're close to a cure for MS but at the moment it's still not a cure, there's not a permanent way to remove it but it can be improved."
A regular at the Gasworks Motorsports Inc Garage, Dylan has also enlisted the help of Illabo's speedway team who will donate the proceeds of their raffle at the next meeting on May 22.
