A lack of numbers for the town has seen players ferried out to surrounding sides like Wagga, Tumut or Gundagai, but a recent approach for a chance to claim the Hedditch Cup has sparked Junee's revival.

Played by teams across the Riverina, the Hedditch Cup is currently held by Griffith who have fended off the competition for eight victories and counting.

Trent Charlton was one man to help bring the new side together, saying it was no easy feat.

"Over the last few seasons me and a few mates have been interested in the rep side of things, but it's hard to find capable players to represent the town," he said.

"The Hedditch Cup has been reintroduced though so we got together at the start of the season and said if we can make a side, we will, so here we are."

Charlton said the original squad held 13 players, with 11 now confirmed.

"It's quite a strong side, there's two or three of them coming back in to the sport who have had a year off but the majority, including myself, are playing for Lake Albert in Wagga at the moment so we do have that experience," he said.

The success of the rep side at the competition will be a contributing factor to the town's ongoing involvement in cricket, according to Charlton.

"It's hard because it's a one challenge date so it's not like a season or anything to get the momentum going again," he said.

"We did play for Junee in the Tumut competition last year but this year folded, so if we win this Hedditch Cup we'll hold the cup for a year and it will be played here next year then to bring a team back."

The team that has been selected for the cup is Trent Charlton, Nathan Charlton, Owen Gill, Mick Butler, Joe Crowder, Isaac Cooper, Chris Smith, Samuel Smith, Rhauri McLeod, William Mcgrath and Ben Turner. The match will be held on February 23 in Griffith, who remain the current champions.
