Facilities and Community Development Manager for Junee Shire Council, Glenn Sheehan, said those responsible needed to understand it was a criminal act.
"It is extremely disappointing that some people think that vandalising our township is acceptable," he said.
"This is not art, and the people responsible for it are not artists. It is vandalism, and they are criminals."
Mr Sheehan said the vandalism would be of detriment to more than just the appearance of the town.
"Our ratepayers will now be forced to pay for the Council to have this mess removed," he said.
"It has been photographed and information has been passed on to Police. Graffiti is removed soon after being reported to Police or Council to discourage this behaviour.
"Council will always investigate and prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law."
In other news:
Acting Inspector Tim Briggs from the NSW Police Force said the community were their best chance as finding who was responsible.
"Police are seeking the assistance from community members to help identify those responsible for these offences," he said.
"We encourage anyone with information to come forward so that the appropriate sanctions can be taken against the perpetrators.
"Those involved can always take responsibility for their own actions and simply come to us, before we come to you."
Mr Briggs backed the Council's comment, reminding the community of the severity of the actions carried out.
"We agree with the comments of our local Council Representatives - graffiti is not art, it is a criminal offence," he said.
