Resident Julie Shepherd was first to start the trend.
"I put some lights up a few weeks ago then my neighbour Rod two [doors] down saw [them], so he decided to make it into a bit of a challenge," she said.
Rodney Reberger said he was "having a beer with a neighbour" when the idea hit.
"We looked up the street and saw Julie's lights and thought why not get something going, so he started putting his up, then us and it's just snowballed from there," he said.

With a carton of beer and a barbecue at stake, seven of the nine houses along the street are involved.
Judging will take place on Friday, December 13 by Deputy Mayor Matt Austin, followed by the barbecue on the Sunday.
"It's just about giving the town that added Christmas spirit," Ms Shepherd said.
