New lights were installed along the front of the theatre, which are able to move and change colours, as well as festoon lights lining the front awning.
Friends of the Athenium chairperson Virginia Stewart said the unveiling on the anniversary night was one to be remembered.
"It was a perfect night to celebrate 90 years," she said.
"The lights are brilliant, absolutely gorgeous and everyone really enjoyed themselves."
The lights were unveiled on October 10, followed by an evening of classic theatre-style lolly bags, popcorn, local choir and band performances and a screening of The Greatest Showman.
"We even had a chocolate cake to hand out as an extra piece to the birthday celebration," Ms Stewart said.
Special guest Peter Lorentz also joined the evening to represent his father George Lorentz, the original manager of the theatre.
The lights were installed over several weeks, done by a Canberra-based man Anthony Price and his son Bailey.
