To mark its 99^th year on October 12, the Illabo Show committee will stage a helicopter drop at 5pm.

An elaborate take on the traditional show day raffle, the helicopter will drop thousands of numbered ping-pong balls across the showgrounds.

Whichever ball arrives closest to the arbitrary pin will win the corresponding ticket holder $2500 in prize money.

"Everyone who comes through the gate before 2pm will get a number," show president Nicole Hopkins said.

With preparation underway for the event, the show continues to buck a region-wide trend, by attracting ample volunteer validation.

Helped in part by the injection of new blood with Simon Muller taking over as the committee's new president, and Ms Hopkins taking on the secretary duties.

"I don't think we see the problems with volunteers that others do, we've got a motivated and enthusiastic committee with a few young people who are getting more involved," Ms Hopkins said.

"We all want the best for the show and we're looking for it to grow."

The strength of numbers is further exemplified by the town's turn out for the annual show day, which will be held this year on October 12.

"Our pavilions usually attract more than 400 entries, which is on par with the bigger shows definitely," Ms Hopkins said.

This year, the show will also coincide with a three-day all-breeds dog event, which Ms Hopkins expects will further bolster tourism capital.
