President Tina outlined news items from the executive, including a name change from Aged units to CWA Units; the total distribution of drought aid donations is $12 million; and the Awareness Week theme Start a Sconversation, focuses on mental health concerns and services for women in rural and regional NSW.
Treasurer, Denise gave a comprehensive and very detailed report on the finances of Hume Group while Jenny Birtles, the Agricultural and Environment Officer, gave some very interesting facts re the koala, our fauna study, remembering the book Blinkie Bill.
Congratulations were extended to members successful in the Conference Handicraft section. One of Patricia Herbert's articles was selected in the top ten. Mrs Holstein, also Eurongilly, received a third for her handmade article from Natural Fibres. In the Land Cookery section, Win Lowe, Bellarwi branch, won seconds for her lime and buttermilk cake and sultana cake, and student Riley Cattle from Kikoira won third place with a cinnamon tea cake. Jenny Birtles, Eurongilly branch, came third for her bush ballad.
There is a change to the Country of Study for 2020, now to be announced at Conference. International Officer Sue, gave a detailed program for the next six months, including International day at Eurongilly in September. Helen, for her Cultural report delighted with a poem "Truth about women my age", and asked members purchase an op shop article for a Cultural Day parade in September.
Members enjoyed speaker, Heath Martin with Jessica Sinclair and Rene Provis from Inland Rail. The Illabo-Stockinbingal section is one of 13 projects to begin in 2023, (37kms of track) that will link Melbourne to Brisbane. This will be a more efficient way to transport freight and reduce road congestion.
Gail Commens, ACWW South Pacific Area President briefly spoke of the Conference in Port Morseby, PNG in June 2020.
The Emily Martin Scholarship was awarded to Skye Churchill and Georgia Wade, both studying medical courses at Canberra University.
The Wagga Daily Advertiser award for the Publicity Officer that best promotes the CWA was presented to Elizabeth Bassingthwaighte and Rhonda Widdows of Bellarwi branch received a highly commended certificate.
