But knowing that others are not so fortunate, eight-year-old Claire Fitzgerald was moved to make a difference.
Over three days, she baked 250 cupcakes. She then sold and delivered the vanilla and chocolate delights around Junee, raised over $500 and donated it to The Kids' Cancer Project.
She was not expecting her personal fundraiser would attract as much support as it did.
"I thought I'd make maybe 50 cupcakes, and I didn't think I'd make $502," said the eight-year-old.
"I wanted to give it all to [The Kids' Cancer Project]. It means a lot to us as a family, we like to raise money that will help people."
When he was aged only 16, Claire's mother's cousin found out he had osteosarcoma attacking his knees.
That was two years ago, but the shock of the diagnosis has continued to ripple through the family.
"He had to go through chemo, which was incredibly hard when he was so young," said Claire's mother Krystal Fitzgerald.
"Claire was very young then too, but she's just always wanted to help others."
