Katie Stanford, aged 12, has been chosen to join the Riverina Combined High School's team in next month's state championships on the NSW Central Coast.
Having only met two months ago the team of eight is made up of fellow bowlers from Wagga, Coolamon, Temora and Griffith.
Although she continues to feel nervous in the lead up to the competition, some of Standford's fears have been allayed through the meeting, and by constantly perfecting her technique.
"The best way to throw the ball is to [firstly] slow down and think," she said.
"Step up, slow down, think. Or throw a bad ball."

This will be Standford's second major competition but first at the state level. She recently competed in the singles at the Zone 8 carnival in Wagga. Standford was introduced to the game 18 months ago by her father, Nathan.
"She's still pretty new at it. We're very proud of her, at Zone, I thought she would be there just for the experience and then maybe next year she'd qualify, but she bowled it out of her skin," said her father.
"She picks the jack up a few times at least every game, but she's still at the stage where she'll be millimetres from it one throw and then metres the next.
"Her consistency needs to pick up a bit, but she's doing well."
The family now attending training sessions together, Standford's two younger siblings - aged 11 and five - are also showing promise in the sport.
"I can see the youngest is just itching to get onto the green, but his hands are a little too small for the balls just yet," said their father.
Standford's love for the green is torn by her other sporting pursuits. Currently, she also plays junior league tag.
"I've been playing footie all my life. Bowls is new and fun [but] tag is my favourite," Standford said.
The Standford family are currently fundraising their way towards the Bateau Bay competition, and have thanked the Junee community for their support.
In particular, the Commercial Hotel and Junee Bowls Club have provided enormously to the cause.
Meanwhile, at the NSW Bowls Championships in Warilla this week, Junee locals Madison Hazell 12, and Kaitlyn Russell 18, have been knocked out of the contest after taking a bye, a win, and a loss at the final stages.
