A spokesperson for the Australian Rail Track Corporation said it is yet too early to know how the derailment happened.
But, it is understand that around 10pm on June 7, two sets of wheels on a container wagon freight train fell off the track near the Junee station.
The Melbourne-bound freighter forced the temporary closure of the platform track.
Repairs were undertaken overnight, and a crane brought in to remove the wagon from the line.
Damage to adjacent tracks meant it took four days to recover the platform line.
It was re-opened the evening of June 11.
Freight and passenger services were re-routed through alternative tracks, causing minor delays. Buses also replaced trains between Cootamundra and Wagga.
Passenger services at Junee returned to usual operation the morning of Wednesday 12 June.
No injuries were recorded during the incident and it will be investigated by ARTC and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
