After a byelection and general election at the state level in the last seven months, on Saturday Wagga and Riverina constituents took to the ballot box to elect the next federal member of Riverina.

The incumbent, deputy prime minister Michael McCormack drew the coveted top spot on the ballot. Challenging him for one of the safest seats in the country - it's been held by coalition parties since 1977, and has only been in Labor's hands twice - is Michael Bayles from the Greens, Labor's Mark Jeffreson and the United Australia Party candidate Richard Foley.
