Following concerns that those receiving waste vouchers in the Rural Vouchers Scheme may lose their benefits to access transfer stations free of charge, council voted in favour of maintaining funding for the 59 properties currently receiving vouchers in the Yathella and Harefield regions.

However, the 11 properties outside of these regions who also received the vouchers will no longer have access.

Alongside the continued funding for the 59 vouchers, council decided to install a new, more accessible transfer station.

Director of Engineering Services, Cole Davis, addressed queries of where the new transfer station will be located, suggesting that at this stage, it can only be placed on Harefield Road.

"The proposed location is the only option. Suggestions of having it on Byrnes Road would not suit as this is a public road and lots of traffic passes, so we don't want people driving past dumping their waste for convenience," he said.

Also on the meeting's agenda was the approval to allow the footpath space under the veranda of the Junee Hotel along Seignior Street to be exempt from Alcohol Free Zoning regulations.

It was decided that the pub be allowed to serve alcohol in the discussed area, under the condition that it be provided with meals, and Councillor Martin Holmes suggested it may prompt other pubs to follow suit.

"I see all other pubs have this, however they don't seem to be using it, but once one pub does, they'll all follow suit," he said.

The next council meeting will be held on May 21.
