He wasn't quite expecting prayers to be answered as quickly as they were.

"That storm on Friday, wasn't it fantastic," he said.

"I was outside at the opening of St Joseph's and we all had to duck for cover."

But as the downpour kept the ground soaked momentarily, Mr Jones continued his call out.

"I'm talking to our farmers, and well, one of them told me he got about 100mm in his dam. But most didn't get much," he said.

"It's really very important for our farmers that we get some rain soon.

"This is when they're starting to plant, we need the moisture to go down about a foot, so we need the rain."

Following the success of last August's prayer event that saw 60 people come together at the Athenium Theatre, Mr Jones has organised another.

Mr Jones is encouraging the community to come together at the theatre from 5:30 this Friday night. The evening will begin with a complimentary supper.

"If the rain belts down, then thank you Lord, but this is as much a community event," he said.

"We need to support each other when the weather is all over the place, because we all suffer when there's no rain."
