Early morning on Friday, a total of 27.8mm was dumped on the town and its surrounds. The majority fell within the space of about 10 minutes.

A spokesperson from the SES unit in Junee described the duration as both a blessing and a curse.

"During the event, we only had two call outs for minor flood prevention requiring half a dozen sandbags each," said the spokesperson.

"However even after the amount of water that was dropped, we did have very few calls over this event, I'm suspecting that was because once it stopped raining, the water receded quite quickly."

The storm caused localised flooding on Lorne Street and has forced the temporary closure of the Junee Recreation and Aquatic Centre.

The stadium and group fitness area were repaired by Monday afternoon, while the pool is expected to re-open on Thursday.

Rainwater flooded the facility through the foyer, causing damage primarily to the pool and gym floor. The total cost of repairs is not yet known.

Centre co-ordinator Ben Brown was inside when the flooding began.

"It's not something that's happened before, definitely not since I've been here and I don't think it's really happened like that before," Mr Brown said.

"I don't think it was the rain that was actually the problem, it was more to do with how much we had and how fast it came down."

Describing the situation as "something of a shock", Mr Brown said the fast actions of those inside were to be praised.

"Staff who were here at the time were amazing. There wasn't much we could do, it was just a matter of making sure we got patrons to safety inside the stadium. Getting them to higher grounds."

Friday's storm activity was followed by more rainfall. Saturday saw 1.6mm, while Monday registered little more than a 0.2mm drizzle.
