The most successful side to start the century, with four Group Nine titles in eight years, the Blues haven't tasted a lot of success since 2010.
However they claimed their first piece of silverware since then with a thrilling in a pre-season nines win at Cootamundra on Saturday.
Undefeated throughout they day, an Austin McDougall try with 20 seconds left on the clock was just enough to down Southcity 18-14 in the final.
Co-coach Dean Bristow was thrilled with the performance.
"We didn't really plan it to be that way, we just come over here to get a bit of match fitness and whatever happened happened," Bristow said.
"It just happened to fall our way so I'm pretty happy with the start of the season."
Things started slowly for the Blues as they struggled early in the day.
They went behind early against Albury and it wasn't until Adam Pearce forced his way over with a minute remaining that they hit the front.
Bristow credited the 14-8 for starting their winning run.
"Two late tries got us through, it saved us and we managed to claw out way through the pool games and finish strong," he said.
Thing weren't much In their second game against Kangaroos they trailed 12-4 at half-time before scoring 20 unanswered points in the second half to come away with the win.
It included two tries in the last four minutes to take the 24-12 victory.
They then scored a 18-10 win over Junee before exploding in the semi-final against.
Lachlan Bristow inserted himself into the game early, scoring twice in the first three minutes.
Tumut scored the first four tries of the half and conceded their first when Brothers scored with nine seconds left in the half.
The Blues didn't let it stop them, scoring twice more to take a 30-4 win, in what was the highest score of the day.
Then for the big one against Southcity.
The two teams went try for try with the title on the line.
Jordan Little scored a first half double to help Southcity to a 10-6 lead at half-time and looked like he was going over for his third only for the Blues defence to scramble just in time.
They went the length of the field to level things through Josh Webb.
Webb then put the Blues in front with a 60-metre effort with five minutes remaining.
However Southcity responded, and looked in the box seat courtesy of scoring first, when Joel Tye crossed in the corner with two left on the clock.
But the Blues hit back again and were able to spread the ball wide for McDougall to score in the corner.
Bristow believes there are plenty of good signs for the season ahead.
"The way everyone has bought in is what we built ourselves on last year and what we tried to continue over," he said.
"The mateship and camaraderie is what got us home all day."
