Taking the Murrulebale Road out of Old Junee at 6:50am, the pair were accompanied by Jackie Starr on motorbike, and escorted by Junee Rotary president Trish Davies.

Together, they represented the Junee contingent of the Rotary Riverina 1,600km relay to Griffith.

With an iron lung in tow, at each town, the riders raise funds to rid the last remote areas of the world of polio.

"They rode so others could walk, polio is only a plane ride away," said Ms Davies.

It took just under three hours and two rest stops before the group arrived at their destination in Temora. 

The route may have been made quicker via Goldfields Way, but Junee Rotary president Trish Davies said the detour ensured a safer passage.

"On Thursday, I spent the whole day driving around, mapping out the safest way to get there, and I nearly ran out of diesel doing it. But it was the best way to avoid the semi-trailers."

Riders will continue the relay over the remaining 136km stretch until it arrives in Griffith again on March 29.
