Marrar Road South is a major commuter and grain freight route between Coolamon, Junee and Wagga.
Once complete, the upgrade is expected to remove 449 heavy vehicles from the stretch of road by providing adequate alternative routes.
The application for funding was made by Coolamon Shire Council, with support documentation from Junee Shire Council.
“Freight is worth more than $60 billion to the NSW economy. It is critical that NSW has a state of the art freight network as the global marketplace continues to become more competitive,” Minister for Roads, Maritime, and Freight Melinda Pavey said.
It is part of the $346 million Fixing Country Roads projects across the state.
