Alex Corneliusen, Bella Willis, Chloe Hatch and Rhys Diggins will join staff one day each week to complete their practical internships this year.
Chosen from nine applicants, the Junee High School students will spend one day each week in a separate department within council.
Alex, who will work alongside the information technology team, is hopeful the training will be a launch pad for his career.
“IT is a broad field, so I’m looking to get a broad perspective of it, then see where it leads,” the 15-year-old said.
Bella Willis, also 15 years old, will work in event organisation.
She developed a taste for the vocation through her involvement with the school’s student representative council.
“I like to organise big events, just seeing it all come together. It’s something I’ve been interested in for a while now,” she said.
A number of the school’s alumni have gone on to work in council, and principal Scott Frazier believes the this will help to strengthen the relationship that so far exists.
“A few years ago, council would come to us looking for students who fit specific roles on offer at council,” Mr Frazier said.
“But now, they’re looking at the individual skills and talents of the students and fitting their interests to the roles that need filling.
“It is really valuable for the kids to have access to mentors, and to be able to see themselves making a difference in the real world.”
