“It’s always good to see the community come out in support of its national days, and celebrate within the spirit intended,” said Junee’s Inspector Rob Vergano.
Operation Safe Return
The NSW road blitz took place between January 25-28. In Junee, Ganmain, Temora, and Coolamon, police conducted 362 random breath tests, returning no positive results.
Rider apprehended
An 18-year-old Junee man will appear before court after he was charged with driving in a dangerous manner, unlicensed, exceeding the speed limit over 45km/h and failure to stop when directed.
At 8:30pm on January 28, police attempted to pull over a blue motorcycle when the rider failed to co-operate with directions.
A number of witnesses attested to seeing the same bike at high speeds around the town between 8:30 and 10:30pm.
Police attended an address on Pitt Street to speak with the rider, during which time the man was charged and the bike ceased.
He will appear before Junee Local Court in March.
Stolen cars
Two cars have been stolen in the town this week.
Overnight on January 29, a silver Ford Ranger was taken from a garage on Dalley Street. Later the same night, a silver Toyota went missing from Thomas Street.
A 15-year-old has now been arrested after he was found in alleged possession of the Toyota.
Turtle traps
While patrolling near Junee’s dam at 8pm on January 27, police spoke with a number of people believed to have been catching turtles.
No turtles were found on the individuals, and no charges were made.
But police are reminding the public that the hunting and trapping of turtles is an offence, and punishable by law.
“Anyone who does see people catching turtles at the location, we’d ask them to contact police as soon as possible,” said Inspector Vergano.
Missing phone
A Junee resident is seeking assistance in locating a missing mobile phone.
Believed to be lost around midday on Monday along Broadway Street, the phone is an ‘Oppo-mobile’ branded smartphone kept in a black leather case.
The case may also have personal items identifying the owner. Junee police have asked that the phone be taken to the police station on Belmore Street.
