Another year has ended, and another 50 preschoolers are on their way to the next chapter of the school lives.
“We’re always so happy for them, but it’s hard to see them go as well. It’s hard not to get attached to them,” said director Rebecca Hart.
Before beginning their ‘big school’ adventure, the outgoing class of Junee RSL Memorial Preschool have made a lot of memories.
Particularly the regular trips to bushlands around Rocky Hill provided an alternative to the constant classroom environment.
“They don't take toys or any equipment, they just explore and investigate nature,” said director Rebecca Hart.
“Using sticks, they’d build cubbies, pretend they were on horses, whatever. Imagination, it’s a wonderful skill we want to encourage.”
The immersion helped to build the students’ care for their local landscape.
“Once when we got there they found rubbish, and they were so distressed they had to get rid of it,” said Ms Hart.
Taking place over terms two and three, bush kindy was at risk of cancellation this year.
It had to be dropped in 2017 due to lack of funds. But a donation from the Junee abattoir made it possible.
“It’s quite expensive to hire a bus every week to get us there,” said Ms Hart.
“There are so many things they can learn and explore, so we’re really grateful [the abattoir] saw its value.”
