An incident outside the club held police attention, during which time the attack was carried out at 12:45am on Saturday.
“Police attended and broke up those altercations, during those matters obviously the deceased has been assaulted,” said Chief Inspector Andrew Spliet.
Paramedics took the 58-year-old Junee man to Wagga Base Hospital with critical head injuries.
He died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The deceased is believed to have been attempting to break up another incident when the attack took place.
“We’re calling on any members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or who may have mobile footage of the incident to come forward with that information,” said the chief inspector.
A police strike force has now been engaged and are viewing CCTV footage.
The attack has prompted a renewed message of self-responsibility this Christmas.
“If you’re out and about, and drinking that you’re acting responsibly as to not cause harm to other people unnecessarily,” said inspector Spliet.
“It’s definitely a tragic event, there’s a family that will be left without the 58-year-old man. He was involved in circumstances that he never should be involved in.”
