The regular trip to Junee Library brought more than the usual Christmas magic for Tom and Carol Doneley.
The local couple won top prize in the monthly raffle, taking home a $200 voucher for Junee IGA. Now, with little over a week until the big day, Mr Doneley took delivery affirming, “Christmas lunch is on the library.”
It was especially a surprise for Mr Doneley who knew nothing of the raffle before winning.
“I didn’t even know [Carol] had entered. I usually come in, grab my books, have a quick chat and I’m gone, but she spends a lot more time here,” he said.
His books of choice revolve around the mystery, crime and grassroots shelves.
Mrs Doneley was unable to collect her voucher with her husband, due to having been omitted to hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Her condition improving by the hour, Mr Doneley says their win will do a lot to bring her back to strength.
“I’m going to go down to Wagga [Base Hospital] and tell her, she’ll probably be as surprised as me,” he said.
