In the lead up to Christmas, residents of the Riverina are being asked to help feed a farmer.
Partnering with FoodBank NSW, police stations around the region will be accepting donations of non-perishables for the next week.
“It’s been a really difficult year for farmers in our region, and we know some of them will be struggling this year to have food on the table for Christmas,” said Wagga’s superintendent Bob Noble.
“In some parts of the country, farmers have had to make a choice between feeding themselves and feeding their livestock.
“They’re doing it pretty hard and they’ve got to be feeling the pinch at this time of year.”
Wagga, Temora, Junee, Cootamundra and Tumut police stations will all be participating in the food drive.
Donations should be brought to the office before December 14.
“It’s always been our main objective to serve the communities we’re in,” said the superintendent.
“We’re local police and we’re supporting our local farmers.”
