“When the public is proactive in getting in contact with police and letting us know what they’ve seen and where, it really does make our jobs a lot easier, and it keeps the whole community safer,” said Inspector Rob Vergano.

New technology

As of Tuesday night, all general duties officers in Junee have been fitted with body-worn video cameras. Prior to this week, highway patrol officers wore the vest-mounted units to the exception of all other police. 

Officers in Ganmain, Coolamon and Junee took delivery of the cameras on Tuesday afternoon, with Wednesday November 14 to be the first full day of use. 

“The moment the officer is called out, it’ll be switched on and the whole encounter will be recorded. That recording will be archived and can be used in court if we need it,” said Inspector Vergano.

Intimidation charges

Following investigations police charged a 35-year-old man on Wednesday November 7 with intimidation and common assault. 

He was granted conditional bail and has been advised he will need to take up residence outside the town to comply.

At the commencement of the new year, he will be due to front court.

Business break in

Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage following the attempted break in of a Junee business. Occurring sometime between Sunday and Tuesday, it is understood the would-be entrant failed to gain purchase on the building.

School’s property stolen

Public assistance has been sort following a burglary at a Junee school. Tools were stolen sometime on Friday or Saturday.
