Junee Correctional Centre and The GEO Group Australia (GEO) have a proud history of supporting the local community in fundraising partnerships.
Two automotive-based projects provide perfect examples of these initiatives and the benefits they have for inmates, centre employees and the community.
In 2015, under the skilled eyes of the centre’s industries manager and TAFE NSW staff, inmates completed a successful restoration of a classic 1973 Holden HQ Monaro GTS sedan. The car was auctioned with $34,000 raised for PCYC.
Last year another car was restored- a 1980s WB Holden coupe utility. It raised $78,190 for Can Assist Junee – more than double the average annual fundraising income for this charity that supports locals battling cancer.
GEO is seeking a partnership with a local not-for-profit service provider who has links with the Junee community for another project — the restoration of a 1987 VL Commodore.
