With 70 riders and 80 horses, the October 27 event saw the most entrants in five years.

“We usually have between 35 and 60 horses, so this was a really good turn out,” said organiser Fleur Keast.

Debbie Daley’s horse, Jumeiah Gold, took out the top honours in the inaugural Off The Track Series.

The 12-year-old thoroughbred has now qualified for next year’s Sydney Royal.

Further to the point of honour for Ms Daley, her horse’s grandsire was the legendary New Zealand racer Octagonal.

The day also hosted the first No Fault Challenge as devised by Peter Corbett.

“It was a timed course, with the added pressure that if the rider made so much as one mistake, their time would not be recorded,” said Ms Keast.

Ranging in ages of under six to about 21, the event saw seven qualifiers.

William Day claimed the Baxter Boots sponsored prize after completing the course in 2.31 seconds.

His twin brother John Day was a close runner-up with 2.35 seconds.
