Despite missing the top award, Junee harness trainer Molly Turner has occasion to celebrate.
The 19-year-old become one of just four junior trainers in the state to be nominated for the NSW Harness Racing Young Trainer Encouragement Award.
It is particularly notable, given that she has only been training harness horses for the past two years.
“I started out as a kid doing mini trots,” she said.
“I just love it all, training, driving, I love it.”
Attending the award ceremony on Saturday in the Sofitel Hotel, Sydney, Miss Turton made the re-acquaintance of a former rival – another driver from Young who was also nominated for the same award.
“I’ve met him a few times, raced against him a fair bit. We both didn’t get the award but it was good to be there and an honour to be nominated,” she said.
Upon her return to Junee, Miss Turton is hoping to broaden her training horizons beyond just her current horse – seven-year-old Spooky Dreams.
“Hopefully I’ll be able to train a few more horses in the future, I’ve just got the one now.”
