There are 195 shows running annually around the state, but only Junee may boast that honour.

Teagan McCormack is now the 130th consecutive girl in Junee to wear the sash.

The 19-year-old Commins Hendriks legal secretary was awarded the title on Saturday October 13. 

Facing the grueling interview process alone, Miss McCormack received the title uncontested, after her competition unceremoniously bowed out.

The ease of acquisition did not deter her determination to make her mark on the coveted role.

 “I was shocked that more didn’t do it this year. I did want to go up against some others,” said the former Junee High School student.

Having grown up in the town, Miss McCormack held hopes to enter the nursing profession.

But a career transition soon after finishing school has since placed her desires elsewhere.

“I’ve always wanted to help people, and I thought [nursing] would be fun,” she said.

“Blood doesn’t bother me, I’m fine to see it and really any other medical thing. Sight is fine, smell is a different matter though.

“I liked the idea of seeing people overcome things like cancer, and in a small town, you can really be there with them from birth through their whole lives.”

But since securely a full time role in the legal profession, Miss McCormack has shifted her goals.

“Being a solicitor is more than just working in crime. It’s writing up wills, helping people buy their first house, and being able to be there for those exciting times in people’s lives,” she said.

“When we’re there for each other during those time, that’s how we grow individually and as a community.”

It is now on to her official first engagement at the October 27 Junee show.
