Between the 10 reception and nursing staff, they took 2,713,878 steps during September.
In conjunction with the annual ‘Steptember’ fundraiser, the Junee team raised $573 for the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation, with the fundraiser raffle going to John Simes, Peg Metcalfe, and David and Mary Crane.
Despite an enormous effort from nurse Jenny Dietrich who managed 427,306 steps, the reception team won, making 1,451,669 steps to the nurses’ 1,262,209.
“There wasn’t one day [Jenny] fell below 20,000 steps.
Her personal best day was on Thursday September 27, when she did 30,804 steps,” said administration assistant Krystal Fitzgerald.
Now that the fundraiser has finished, the staff plan to continue the daily count, though perhaps sans the competitive aggression.
“Everyday, we each did a minimum of 10,000 steps by walking to work, or walking around the block a couple times. It brought out a real competitive streak in some of us that we didn’t know we had,” said Ms Fitzgerald.
