The 20-year-old came to call Junee home when her family relocated from Parkes in 2001. 

“I don’t remember much from Parkes. I just remember a glass door we had in our house that the dog used to press its nose against.

“Junee is my home, there’s so many opportunities here that people aren’t aware of at all.

“I’ve always been involved in the community, but it’s not hard to be here. I’ve done so many extra curricula things at school I can’t even count them.”

Now three years out of school, and having tried her hand at several career paths, Miss Turner is looking towards her future.

Once her chef’s apprenticeship is completed, it will be a matter of weighing her options.

“There’s a bit of travel for certain. If I want to go to university, there’s Charles Sturt in Wagga or I’ll have to move away,” she said.

At present the thought of such distance is unbearable, and impractical for continuing her showgirl duties.

As the 2018 Junee representative, Miss Turner will pass her responsibilities on when the annual show kicks off on Saturday October 27.

Placing herself into the running for Junee’s annual showgirl contest last year was a natural fit for the daughter of Junee High School’s deputy principal.

Although it pains her to relinquish the role, she has advice for her successor. 

“Study up on what the questions might be and just go for it,” she said.

“A lot of girls don't realise just how much you gain from doing it.”
