The pro-active operation commenced on August 18 and concluded early evening on August 19, involving officers from the Junee Police Station, Wagga Traffic and Highway Patrol, the Riverina Regional Enforcement Squad, along with Junee Correctional staff and their drug detection dog.
Over the two-day period police breath-tested 65 drivers and drug-tested five drivers.
A total of 13 cars were searched, with three traffic infringement notices and two defects were issued.
Officers searched 20 people and two people were charged for traffic related matters.
Riverina Police District Duty Officer Inspector Robert Vergano described the operation as a great success.
“Over the two days officers were able to conduct a number of searches on cars and visitors to the centre,” Inspector Vergano said.
“We are hopeful to conduct future joint operations with the Junee Correctional Centre.”
