Junee man Liam Vincent Cummins appeared before Wagga Local Court for sentencing on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to display his P-plates.
Magistrate Christopher Halburd reminded Cummins, who is currently working as a roofer on the Junee jail upgrade, that he could spend up to nine months in jail for this kind of offence.
"Your dad was a community corrections officer? Your dad has attended road accidents where people have been seriously injured and presumably died as a result of alcohol,” Mr Halburd said.
"He must be very disappointed."
The court heard Cummins had been out drinking in town when he decided to go an pick up a pizza for their dinner.
Cummins told the magistrate he was sorry for his actions.
"I’m very regretful for what I’ve done, and I can’t even look at myself because of it,” Cummins said.
However, the magistrate said he did not show the same level of remorse during the night in question.
“Reading this fact sheet, you were more interested in whether you were going to pick up your pizza,” he said.
“It’s going to be a very expensive night out for you and an expensive pizza to go and pick up, but, as you know, it could’ve been a lot worse.”
Cummins had his licence disqualified for 12 months and was fined $1200 for driving under the influence of alcohol and another $1100 for failing to display his P-plates.
