THE under 10 Giants had another fantastic game. They defeated Kooringal 22-0 in an awesome display of teamwork and skill. From the first few minutes, they took control of the game, moving well around the court for each other to ensure that there were always easy passing options available.

Our focus for this week was contesting the ball in the air and it was great to see that everyone, regardless of their height, caused constant disruption to Kooringal’s passing with deflections and intercepts whenever the opportunity arose and especially when the ball was in the air. After taking the lead early, we were able to rotate positions to share the shooting between 5 different players. The defence was much the same, with everyone pitching in to ensure that our GKs were untroubled by attackers. The midcourt players were pivotal as they attacked constantly, finding space when we had the ball and swarming over their opponents in defence. Super job girls.
The Under 12’s Junee Jewels started the season with a very tight match against Uranquinty.
The Jewels struggled early on in attack and only their tenacious defence kept them close on the scoreboard, however they turned it all around with a dominating 2nd quarter performance to take the lead. The second half featured few goals, with both teams swarming defensively. With a draw looking likely, Caidence Reberger scored the winning goal with a long distance shot. Final score was 11-10 in favour of the Jewels.
Our new players, Lexi Lamb and Maggie Hawke, both impressed with their effort and skills on debut. Tarah Bouffler and Dakota Huard, who are new to this age group, got stronger and stronger as the game went on. Chloe Masters and Ellie Baldock played tremendous games at both ends, while Zoe Fitzhardinge and Erica Wooden had fine games, with their work rate in attack and defensive effort a highlight.
Junee B Grade had a tough game on the weekend against the ladder leaders - Shooting Stars.
Without reserves on the bench, Storm played a tiring but persistent game. Shooters, Jacinta Cooper and Madi Harpley moved well against tight and tall defence but not enough balls made it to the girls for them to match the quick goals of Stars' shooters.
Leigh Fitzgerald and Sarah Stevens fought hard in defence with several intercepts and tips but failed to turn around the 3 point lead Stars held at quarter time. In centrecourt, Elise Drum, Ella Fitzgerald and Jessica Barclay contributed to both Junee's attack and defence, improving their positioning towards the end of the game.
However Star's pressure became evident in some of Junee's careless throws and the game ended in a 20-54 loss.
