Working closely with local Landcare groups, Sustainable Farms aims to address all aspects of what is required for a sustainable farming enterprise – financial success, mental wellbeing, a sustainable landscape. This expands upon existing research focused on ecological sustainability.
“There is no single recipe to achieve sustainable agriculture, it will vary for each farm and each farmer. Only by ensuring farmers are equipped with the best information, drawing on the experiences of others, can good decisions be made,” Mason Crane from Sustainable Farms said.
Sustainable Farms will host an inaugural field day for the region with Murrumbidgee Landcare and the Junee Landcare Network on August 13 near Illabo, focusing on the value of shelter belts and other native vegetation, for production and farm wildlife.
The event will be held at the John and Nicole Hopkins property “Allawah”.
Over the last few decades the Hopkins family have planted thousands of native trees and shrubs and kilometres of fencing to protect waterways and paddock trees and increase shelter for livestock and crops.
