Next Saturday he will auction off the chance to cut his locks to raise funds for the Cancer Council’s Girls’ Night In.
“His work mates at Croker Grain have already pledged a bit to cut some off,” said event organiser Kerrie Holmes.
For the past 15 years, Ms Holmes has been involved with organising Junee’s Girls’ Night In.
They have raised more than $80,000 for breast and prostate cancer research in that time. In 2005 the fundraiser took on a new meaning for Ms Holmes.
“I had routine screens every two years and at Christmas time they found a lump. I hate the word ‘survivor’, though I’m not sure how I’d describe it. I’m just lucky.”
As with previous years, the Girls’ Night In evening will be in September. Luke’s haircut on July 7 will be something of a pragmatic pre-party.
“It’s going to be a bit cold for the poor bugger, but we chose next weekend because he needs time to grow a style before his wedding.”
Raffle tickets will be sold behind the Co-Op next Saturday before the haircut.
The September event’s theme will be ‘upper middle bogan’, with people encouraged to wear “the thing in your wardrobe that you’ve kept but shouldn’t have.”
“It sounds like one of those lines, but we do it so one day there will be a cure, so my kids won’t go through what I went through.”
