Junee are the only team to get the better of the Brethren this season, but there was no repeat of the round two result at Laurie Daley Oval on Saturday.
Instead it was the Wagga side who took a 30-12 win to claim the Rick Keast Memorial Shield and stay on top of the Group Nine ladder.
Coach Terry Westblade was pleased to come away from the top of the table clash with a big victory.
“We scored seven tries so I was really impressed with that,” Westblade said.
“I was really pleased with the way they jump in and play for each other.”
Brothers had some injury concerns heading into the game and needed an 11th hour reshuffle when Harold Kirby and Will Merritt were delayed getting to the game.
It meant Brad Cain started on the wing and Brady Collins in the second row.
However they were able to overcome it to tackle a Diesels outfit missing the likes of Daniel Foley and Matt Hands.
While Connor McCauley and Aaron Wynne were strong in the forward back, it was the back line who really shone.
Centre Ed Ansell in particular starred for Brothers, crossing for three tries in the win.
“He really stepped to the plate,” Westblade said.
“He played very strong and his defence was fantastic.”
Cade Price also scored twice, including an important try leading into half-time.
The two teams were locked at 6-all before Peter Little delivered a lovely ball for the elusive fullback to score.
Keifer Power then finished off a 70-metre try just before the break to see the Brethren out to a 16-6 lead.
Westblade thought it was important to take adavantage of a weight of possession to step up the win.
“That was great as we had so much territory advantage and didn’t have a lot to show for it,” he said.
“It was nice to get them.”
Little, Price and Ansell added to their lead before Damon Jackson hit back for the Diesels but it wasn’t enough to halt the Wagga side’s impressive roll.
Brothers are looking to keep their winning run going when the tackle Tumut at Twickenham on Saturday.
They got the better of the Blues earlier in the season, but their rivals are also coming off a win after getting the better of Kangaroos.
Meanwhile Junee will be looking to rebound when they face Albury.
The loss sees them drop two wins behind Brothers and back into the pack of teams looking to finish in the top four with six rounds to play.
