The cold weather might have dampened petty crime, with Junee Police Inspector Rob Vergano only reporting one criminal incident that has occurred in the past couple of weeks.
On Tuesday June 12 between 6am and 6pm, an unknown person or group of people attended a rural property on Bethungra Road, Eurongilly, about 21 kilometers south east of Junee.
The offender or offenders allegedly stole 200 litres of diesel fuel from a fuel browser.
Police have reviewed the CCTV footage from a nearby property on Bethungra Road and are asking anyone who may have information, or recall seeing a suspicious vehicle to contact Junee Police on 6924 1144 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Inspector Vergano is asking residents to assist the police in the deterrence of rural related crime by:
- Locking all vehicles, including farm vehicles and ensuring no keys are left in the ignition.
- Closing and locking garages and storage areas where possible.
- Don’t leave bikes, ATVs, machinery, equipment and other items throughout the property, particularly overnight unsecured. Make sure they are secured in the rear yard, or locked away in the garage or shed.
- Do not leave large amounts of fuel in machinery or visible from roads.
- Keep a current count of all stock, ensuring they are adequately tagged and recorded.
- Ensure firearms are adequately secured, legally stored and serial numbers are recorded.
- Contact police to report any suspicious vehicles or activity in or around the area.
