The town played host to the Australian Highland Cattle Society’s national show, with breeders coming from all over to converge on the Junee Showground.
Added to the Highlands theme, the Wagga and District Pipe Band provided entertainment and there was Scottish food on offer.
It was the first time in seven years that the show had been held in NSW and was brought to the Riverina on the back of growing interest in the breed in this region.
Dexter Logan flew from Scotland to judge the 50 head of cattle assembled at Junee.
Mr Logan told the media that the cattle he saw over the weekend were similar to those in Scotland and had “great style”.
Junee mayor Neil Smith said the cattle made an impressive site.
Councillor Smith was also impressed by the broad range of people who had travelled to Junee with their animals.
“The ages ranged from little kids to people who looked to be in their 80s,” he said.
“There were lots of visitors too, who were interested in seeing the Highland cattle.”
Cr Smith said about 60 people had attended a show dinner in Junee on Saturday night.
“I spoke with people from the Barossa Valley, from Tamworth. They had come from all over with their best cattle,” he said.
Cr Smith said he had received positive feedback from the society members about Junee, and in particular compliments on the way they had been welcomed by the community.
