Wollongong-born Tessa Devine, returned to the Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory and threw a concert to celebrate her debut album ‘Pieces’.
The audience were offered a unique performance as she mixed “indie folk pop” with surfy tribal roots and her quirky personality.
Ms Devine incorporates different elements into her shows, including “a little bit of awkward comedy” that contrasts to her personality.
“The songs don’t represent my personality, they’re very much deep and then I start talking, and it’s very different to my personality, it’s kind of like a split-personality act,” she said.
While Ms Devine has performed in Junee before, once every few months, Saturday evening was her “first sort of show”.
“I just like to entertain and connect with people and music is the best way of doing that and awkwardly speaking in between stories,” she said.
Not always musically inclined, Ms Devine loved sport and grew up playing it until she became injured. This ended her sporting career and that’s when she started acting.
“I went to an acting school in Canberra and from there I just fell into music,” she said.
“I started playing and doing a little bit of awkward comedy stuff like making up songs from my guitar and learning three chords.”
Ms Devine has been playing the guitar and singing for about five years now, living “on and off” in Canberra or travelling in her van.
