At times, they gave the Diamonds too many opportunities to intercept passes, but the Giants’ footwork continued to improve and their rebounding was excellent.
Jocie and Kara were all over the court in GD and GA, supporting the younger players and providing a strong defence.
Scarlett, Lucy and Poppy worked hard on the wings, marking players and slowing the opponent’s attack. The improvement in their passing and catching was obvious as they managed to stick to more difficult balls and fought for possession of loose balls on the court.
Miah and Zoe shored up the defence and battled hard against persistent attackers. They rebounded brilliantly and time and again, managed to take the ball from defence to attack and send it back down the court.
Jorja and Sophie had a tough day as they doggedly attacked the ball and strived to intercept every pass. In return, their opponents chased them down and ensured there were no easy passes.
Across the board, this was an excellent second game. The girls’ effort and enthusiasm was fantastic.
The Under 12s Junee Jewels struggled in their second game of the season, with Kooringal winning 20-5.
From the start Kooringal passed the ball with precision and forced turnovers, with no obvious weak points in their attack or defence.
Despite an excessive amount of ball coming into the defensive third and circle, Junee’s defenders regularly made their opponents work hard for their goals. When the Jewels were able to move the ball into their attacking third, the team put together some excellent passing sequences, but were unable to convert opportunities into goals often.
Junee Storm’s 32-15 win against Ag College Aqua puts them on top of the B Grade ladder.
Starting with a tight first quarter, the girls increased their lead, thanks to the consistent and reliable shooting of Jacinta Cooper and Madi Harpley.
Playing for the first time, Jana Lawson and Georgie Turner were strong assets to the centre court, bringing speed and consistent back up. Working with them in the wing and centre were Ella Fitzgerald and Elise Drum. Sarah Stevens and Josie Drum also played a great game in defence with the two girls accounting for a number of valuable turnovers.
