The alcohol free zones, which are concentrated in three separate areas, were first introduced in July 2014 in consultation with the Junee Police.
Junee Shire Council heard that the alcohol free zones had “achieved a reduction in unacceptable street drinking” over the past four years.
Junee Police Inspector Rob Vergano said the alcohol-free zones had been extremely effective, and the council’s decision to renew them for another four years had his team’s full support.
“Our incidents of alcohol-related crime in those areas had been minimal to pretty much zero over the last four years,” Inspector Vergano said.
“They are working, so there was no use in altering them – we definitely support their continuation and provided the council with our input.”
