THE final round of the 2018 WDBA pennant season was held last Saturday with fourth grade needing to win to secure the 2018 pennant.

Fourth Grade v Ganmain: Noel Lawson, Corey Hazell, Warren Charlton and Sean Smith started strongly leading 14-5 halfway through the match, but the Troy Lenon lead Ganmain side fought back to tie the match at 14 with five ends to play. With the pennant on the line the Smith-lead team sprang into action to score nine shots and the match. The final score was a win to Junee, 23 to 19.
Jock Commins, David Billingham, Bryan Purse and Martin Cousley played Des Harris from Ganmain and both teams started well, with Junee just ahead 6 to 5 after eight ends, but Cousley’s four controlled the middle ends, scoring 10 shots to one, to lead 16 to 6, but Harris fought back to trail by three shots with three ends to go. Junee rallied to win 20 to 13.
Martin Holmes, John Puttock, Ian Cooper and Brett Fanning started strongly leading 9 to 1 early in the match, but then it turned sour trailing 14 to 11 halfway through the match but the Fanning lead quartet are fighters and trailing by two shots with six ends to play, dominated the final ends, winning five of the final six ends to win 21 to 18.

Seventh Grade v Yerong Creek: Jason Flagg, Richard Thomas, Harry Thompson and Jarrod Smith were too good winning their encounter 30 to 19.
Glen Fanning, Graeme Oehm, Gary Ferrario and Mick Poole were also strong and dominated their opponents to win 23 to 13 and finally an understrenghed team of Ethan Sainsbury, Brian Smith and Lyle Billingham fought hard but were beaten 23 to 17.

Fourth Grade will now progress to the zone pennant play-off in June. Fifth Grade were competitive but finished third and 7th Grade were desperately unlucky to finish just three points out of second position and a shot at the pennant title, but they will be better for the year and will look to improve again in 2019.
