Junee is set to commemorate the final stage of The Centenary of Anzac which marks 100 years since Australia’s involvement in the First World War.
The president of the Junee/Illabo Red Cross Branch, Jenny Morton, has been working on the Poppy Projects in conjunction with the Junee Evening Branch of CWA.
“We started the Poppy Project in January this year to crochet or knit poppies as a tribute to the men and women who fought in World War I,” she said.
“Locals were asked to knit or crochet as many as they could and we now have over 3000 poppies.”
Mrs Morton said it was important that Australia continued to honour Anzac Day to commemorate anyone who has served the nation.
“My parents both fought in WWII and I had 22 of my family involved in WWI and I just think we need to honour the men and women who fight for our country who give us the freedom and the life we have today,” she said.
Anzac Day in Junee will begin with the 5.45am Junee Dawn Service at the Junee Cenotaph, Broadway.
This will be followed by:
