Mr Fanning said it felt great to be joining the force, and he was looking forward to helping the police officers.
“I just found out this morning that I’ve been accepted as a VIP, and I’m very happy about it,” Mr Fanning said on Wednesday.
“I’ll be doing some administration work for them and helping with some community events for a couple days a week.”
Sergeant Bernie Nix said Mr Fanning would be a very valuable addition to the team.
“Glen has been a friend of the station for a long time, so this just makes it a bit more official,” Sergeant Nix said.
“He’s very well known in the community and has a fair few roles here in Junee – he volunteers at Junee Public School two days a week and helps the kindies with reading, and he’s also part of NSW Fire and Rescue.”
Officer in charge Inspector Rob Vergano said he was thrilled to have Mr Fanning on board.
“Glen’s a well-known local identity, so I think he’ll be a key part of our community engagement,” Inspector Vergano said.
“He’s lived in Junee for many, many years, so I really don’t think there’s anyone in Junee he doesn’t know – he can walk into any cafe and everybody knows him.”
