The Junee Lifestyle Village is one step closer to becoming a reality after the retirement village’s plans were presented to the community on Tuesday evening.
The plans revealed seven different types of units on offer, ranging in price from $345,900 for a two-bedroom dwelling with a single-car garage to $385,800 for a three-bedroom dwelling with a double-car garage.
Chairman Michael Commins said there had already been some good interest, with about 15 units already pre-allocated to residents.
Mr Commins said the thinking behind the project was to give Junee’s eldery residents the opportunity to live self-sufficiently without leaving town.
“There have been a lot of people who have had to leave Junee to move into retirement villages – now, our residents won’t have to move 30 or 40 minutes away anymore,” he said.
“If we can retain more of our elderly residents, who are still very productive people, then we’ll have more volunteers for our non profit organisations and clubs and more customers for our local businesses, too.
“This place is, as the crow flies, 700 metres from the hospital, 800 metres from the medical centre, and 800 metres from the grocery store.”
Project manager Ellena Zacharia said the village will offer a holistic living experience for residents situated right in the heart of Junee.
“We’ll have a community centre for gatherings, a barbeque area, and we’re also taking into account some recommendations for a playground for residents’ grandchildren,” Ms Zacharia said.
“We’re also going to have some display homes at the front of the property, so if people are interested they can come along and have a look before they sign up.”
Ms Zacharia said the development team will finalise the design plans and subdivison work over the next few months with the view of beginning construction halfway through the year.
